Description :: UMD 2.4.0 is the 6th update of second Major release of UMD (Unified Middleware Distribution) made available for the EGI production infrastructure. This release supports Scientific Linux 5 & 6 and Debian 6 (Squeeze).

Release Notes ::
- Minor release containg several bug fixes especially related with the information service
- Minor release fixing the dependencies between the lcg-info-dynamic-scheduler-pbs and the maui-client.
- Release which contains many important bug fixes especially the one affecting the nordugrid-arc-compute-element metapackage and the uploading of file due to problems in client.

- Important fix related with the storm spacetoken which triggered timeouts.
- This is a bugfix release for GridSite, addressing an issue with DigiCert proxy certificates.
- This release adds a new C library for replica registration, replica lookup, replica attributes, index queries, and administrative tasks. It also contains a new command line (globus-rls-cli) tool for client operations and a globus-rls-admin tool for administrative tasks.

- This release contains many new features related with the use of X.509 certificates.
- The current state of the mapping between various credentials and Unix accounts are stored in an open database on the disk, but this information could change over time through (regular) system administrative interventions. This state is now preserved in a relational database with the added benefit of being accessible by other systems, e.g. GridSAFE and build-up an easy to backup historic view on the mapping state. The schema can be used to link up account mapping and/or credential mapping results originating from other credential types and link up more fine grained details from the specific work environment, i.e. a Gatekeeper and GridFTPd will be able to add service specific information together with the mapping results.

- Supports certificate-based authentication, using both standard X.509 End Entity and Proxy Certificates.
- Supports delegation of user rights to services using standard X.509 Proxy Certificates.
- Supports authorization based on client certificate chains, including support for X.509v3 certificate extensions.
- Provides tools for managing certificates, proxies, trust roots, and credential identity mapping tables.
