Software Decription

middleware ready to install as relased by the products teams

Abstract

The first release of Preview is a mirror of the EMI3 repository, containing the Update 29 (11.11.2015) – v. 3.17.1-1
http://www.eu-emi.eu/releases/emi-3-monte-bianco/updates

The updates announced by the several products will be grouped and released as a Preview update on a monthly basis.

Note: EGI provides the preview repository without any additional quality assurance process, but the products are released as they are provided by the product team. EGI recommends the use of the UMD repositories, which contain software verified through the quality assurance process of UMD.

ARC 15.03 update 12

Description

The Advanced Resource Connector (ARC) middleware is an Open Source software solution to enable distributed computing infrastructures with the emphasis on processing large volumes of data. ARC provides an abstraction layer over computational resources, complete with input and output data movement functionalities. The security model of ARC is identical to that of Grid solutions, relying on delegation of user credentials and the concept of Virtual Organisations. ARC also provides client tools, as well as API in C++, Python and Java.

Release notes

This is a bugfix release, addressing a vulnerability discovered in 15.03u11.

The vulnerability is related to the performance logging feature, specifically to the folder /var/log/arc/perfdata and its given permissions. The issue is not considered severe, but additional protective measures have anyway been introduced. From version 15.03u12 the folder in mention will only be created if the system administrator explicitly asks for it.

The performance logging feature is off by default, both in this and earlier versions of ARC. In this version, in addition the folder will only be created if the feature is turned on.

If you want to enable the performance logging for debugging purposes or other specific reasons, this is as before done in your configuration settings. The flag to turn on the performance logging has changed from ”yes” to ”expert-debug-on”, see documentation.

NorduGrid ARC 15.03 has received an update to:

  • core, clients, CE, Infosys and gridftp – from version 5.2.1 to 5.2.2
  • documents – from 2.0.12 to 2.0.13

Nagios plugins, CAnL C++ and metapackages are unchanged.

See the release notes for details.

APEL 1.5.1-1

Description

APEL is an accounting tool that collects accounting data from sites participating in the EGI and WLCG infrastructures as well as from sites belonging to other Grid organisations that are collaborating with EGI, including OSG, NorduGrid and INFN.

The accounting information is gathered from different sensors into a central accounting database where it is processed to generate statistical summaries that are available through the EGI/WLCG Accounting Portal.

Statistics are available for view in different detail by Users, VO Managers, Site Administrators and anonymous users according to well defined access rights.

More information on the APEL page.

Release notes

  • Add support for Torque 5.1.2 time duration format.
  • Change dirq call to use absolute path to support versions of dirq >= 1.7.
  • Fix crash when StAR loader encouters a valid XML file with no records in it.

APEL SSM 2.1.7-1

Description

Secure Stomp Messenger (SSM) is the messaging system used by APEL to transmit messages. It is written in Python and uses the STOMP protocol.

We would be happy to hear any comments you have about SSM – design, packaging, documentation or anything else – email apel-admins@stfc.ac.uk.

More information on the APEL/SSM page.

Release notes

  • Added a delay when receiver is reconnecting to improve reliability.

ARC 15.03 update 11

This is a bugfix release, introducing new features and addressing bugs discovered since release 15.03u10.

NorduGrid ARC 15.03 has received an update to:

  • core, clients, CE, Infosys and gridftp – from version 5.2.0 to 5.2.1
  • documents – from 2.0.11 to 2.0.12

Nagios plugins, CAnL C++ and metapackages are unchanged.

Note1: related to feature included in last release – offline script to generate performance data in infoproviders.

Note that in 15.03 update 10, a bug was introduced, which filled up the folder storing the NYTProf performance collection. Users are encouraged to clean up the perl_nytprof folder. Default location is /var/log/arc/perfdata/perl_nytprof.

It is safe to run:

 rm -f /var/log/arc/perfdata/perl_nytprof/*

while A-REX is running.

Issue is fixed in this release (see bug 3616).

Note2 related to openssl 1.1 transition.

As already mentioned in release notes of 15.03u10: Note that from next major release we will not continue support for EL5 and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. This is a consequence of significant code changes when implementing OpenSSL 1.1.0 in ARC needed for continued support of EPEL based platforms, in addition to Debian. As of Fedora 26 and Debian 9 these platforms will move to OpenSSL 1.1.0. Therefore as of next major release support of OpenSSL versions lower than 1.0.0 will be dropped. In addition, as of next major relase legacy proxies will not be supported.

See the release notes for details.

DPM 1.9.0

Description

The Disk Pool Manager (DPM) is a lightweight storage solution for grid sites. It offers a simple way to create a disk-based grid storage element and supports relevant protocols (SRM, gridFTP, RFIO) for file management and access. It focus on manageability (ease of installation, configuration, low effort of maintenance), while providing all required functionality for a grid storage solution (support for multiple disk server nodes, different space types, multiple file replicas in disk pools)

FTS 3 – 3.5.7

Description

FTS3 is the service responsible for globally distributing the majority of the LHC data across the WLCG infrastructure. Is a low level data movement service, responsible for reliable bulk transfer of files from one site to another while allowing participating sites to control the network resource usage
