Software Decription

middleware ready to install as relased by the products teams

Abstract

The first release of Preview is a mirror of the EMI3 repository, containing the Update 29 (11.11.2015) – v. 3.17.1-1
http://www.eu-emi.eu/releases/emi-3-monte-bianco/updates

The updates announced by the several products will be grouped and released as a Preview update on a monthly basis.

Note: EGI provides the preview repository without any additional quality assurance process, but the products are released as they are provided by the product team. EGI recommends the use of the UMD repositories, which contain software verified through the quality assurance process of UMD.

ARC 15.03 update 16

Description

The Advanced Resource Connector (ARC) middleware is an Open Source software solution to enable distributed computing infrastructures with the emphasis on processing large volumes of data. ARC provides an abstraction layer over computational resources, complete with input and output data movement functionalities. The security model of ARC is identical to that of Grid solutions, relying on delegation of user credentials and the concept of Virtual Organisations. ARC also provides client tools, as well as API in C++, Python and Java.

Release notes

This is a minor release, introducing new features and addressing bugs discovered since release 15.03u15.

NorduGrid ARC 15.03 has received an update to:

  • core, clients, CE, Infosys and gridftp – from version 5.3.2 to 5.4.0
  • documents – from 2.0.16 to 2.0.17

Nagios plugins, Gangliarc and metapackages are unchanged.

Note: In the process of fixing bug 3666 for ARC 5.3.2 a backward incompatibility was introduced in the EMI-ES interface. This backward incompatibility is still present in 5.4.0. If you run ARC < 5.3.2 you are asked to not turn on the EMI-ES interface, hence avoiding any problems. Sites running ARC >= 5.3.2 should not suffer from the issue.

CVMFS 2.4.1

Description

The CernVM File System provides a scalable, reliable and low-maintenance software distribution service. It was developed to assist High Energy Physics (HEP) collaborations to deploy software on the worldwide-distributed computing infrastructure used to run data processing applications. CernVM-FS is implemented as a POSIX read-only file system in user space (a FUSE module). Files and directories are hosted on standard web servers and mounted in the universal namespace /cvmfs. More info here.

Release notes

CernVM-FS 2.4 is a feature release that comes with performance improvements, new functionality, and bugfixes. Please find detailed release notes in the technical documentation.

gfal2 2.14.2

Description

GFAL (Grid File Access Library ) is a C library providing an abstraction layer of the grid storage system complexity. The version 2 of GFAL tries to simplify at the maximum the file operations in a distributed environment. The complexity of the grid is hidden from the client side behind a simple common POSIX API.

VOMS Admin 3.7.0

This release provides fixes to some outstanding bugs and provides some improvements:

  • DNs are now correctly normalized by VOMS Admin when voms.skip_ca_check is on
  • Improvements in the management of the permission cache introduced in VOMS Admin 3.6.0
  • Improved REST API to query VOMS user information, documented in the voms admin guide

The full list of bug fixes and improvements, as well the information for installing and configuring this product, are reported in the release notes

XRootD 4.7.0

Description

XRootD software framework is a fully generic suite for fast, low latency and scalable data access, which can serve natively any kind of data, organized as a hierarchical filesystem-like namespace, based on the concept of directory. As a general rule, particular emphasis has been put in the quality of the core software parts.

Release notes

Detailled release notes at http://xrootd.org/2017/08/28/announcement_4_7_0.html

IMPORTANT: the latest version of Xrootd ( 4.7.0) has ”broken” the xrdcp command towards dcache:

https://github.com/xrootd/xrootd/issues/593

The issue seems to be server side ( a missing field in the response which is now enforced by the client) and a fix will be provided in the upcoming Xrootd 4.7.1.

ARGUS 1.7.2

Description

Argus is a system meant to render consistent authorization decisions for distributed services (e.g. compute elements, portals). In order to achieve this consistency a number of points must be addressed. First, it must be possible to author and maintain consistent authorization policies. This is handled by the Policy Administration Point (PAP) component in the service. Second, authored policies must be evaluated in a consistent manner, a task performed by the Policy Decision Point (PDP). Finally, the data provided for evaluation against policies must be consistent (in form and definition) and this is done by the Policy Enforcement Point (PEP).

Find more information on the web site.

Release notes

The Argus 1.7.2 release provides a fix for an X.509 DN parsing problem in the PAP service. Look at the release notes for details
